Mauna Loa

It's been nearly 40 years since Mauna Loa has erupted and that is historically an anomaly. Right now, three or four fissures have opened up and lava is flowing on that volcano.

Each Hawaiian Island started from volcanic eruptions over a hot spot in the ocean. Hawaii Island is made up of 5 volcanoes. We are on Mauna Kea which hasn't erupted in about 4,500 years. We like that!

Driving about 10 miles from Koili Point will provide you with some amazing views.

We have availability in our Waimea house in January if you want to see!

Today, I want to leave you with a Hawaiian Place Name and its translation. Today's place name is Mauna Loa. Mauna means 'mountain' and Loa means Long. So Long Mountain is the English translation and considering Mauna Loa is about 74 miles long, it's apropos.

Aloha!
