KOILI POINT

Eco-Friendly Farming

What began as overgrown cane grass has become a thriving, pesticide-free orchard. Since 2014, we’ve restored this former sugar plantation land by hand—clearing, planting, and caring for each tree from keiki (seedling) to harvest. Every fruit tree, from mango to starfruit and lemon, is grown without herbicides or chemicals. Guests are encouraged to taste what’s in season, learn about Hawaiian crops, and see how small choices make a big difference.

Today the farm continues to evolve through regenerative practices that protect the soil and coastline. Natural composting, careful water use, and sheep that serve as gentle lawnmowers keep the land healthy and balanced. Our goal is simple: to grow good things while giving back to the ‘āina (land) that sustains us.

KOILI POINT

Renewable Energy & Water Management

Koili Point is powered entirely by the sun. Forty-eight rooftop panels and Blue Ion batteries generate clean energy for both homes, while a quiet backup generator ensures steady power during cloudy spells. Guests enjoy every modern comfort—air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and warm showers—without relying on the grid. It’s proof that sustainable living can still feel effortless.

Fresh, county-supplied water flows from one of the island’s purest aquifers, and every drop is used mindfully. Laundry and high-energy tasks run during daylight hours to align with solar power, while natural ventilation keeps evenings cool. Together, these choices create an off-grid system that’s both resilient and respectful of the island’s resources.

Supporting Our Community

Sustainability at Koili Point extends beyond the land—it’s about people, too. We hire and collaborate with local craftspeople, from Tongan stone masons to woodworkers who built our tiki hut from native ʻōhiʻa. Whenever we have extra fruit or produce, it’s shared with neighbors or donated to local food banks.

We also love connecting guests with small businesses nearby—farmers markets, local roasters, and family-run tours that celebrate the Hamakua Coast. Every visit supports this community, helping local traditions and livelihoods thrive alongside the land itself.

Travel with Purpose

Choosing Koili Point means traveling with intention—honoring Hawaiʻi’s past while helping preserve its future. From the restored sugar lands and pesticide-free orchards to the solar power that runs each stay, every detail reflects our belief that comfort and conservation belong together. Guests are invited to connect with the land, pick fruit from the trees, meet the sheep, and walk the same ground once shaped by King Kamehameha’s people. It’s travel that feels good, does good, and leaves the island just a little better than you found it.
