Many of you have met Maggie at Koili Point. Perhaps it was late at night as she stood on the road with a flashlight to ensure you found the turnoff; or perhaps during the day as she walked you through check-in information or provided some island insights.

But did you also know that when Maggie isn't guiding you into the property or ensuring the gift baskets are stocked and the house is impeccably clean, that she is a 5-time winner of the Hawaii Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award for Jazz Album of the Year!!!

An incredible singer/songwriter and piano player, Maggie has been living, writing, recording and performing on Oahu, Lanai, and Hawaii's "Big Island" since 1976. She's opened concerts for Dave Brubeck, the Jazz Crusaders, Taj Mahal, Richie Havens and others. At home in Hawaii, her band mates include Dean Taba, Paul Lindbergh, Rocky Holmes, DeShannon Higa, Jason Gay... The list goes on.

You can read more about her at maggieherron.com. Or go directly to Spotify and listen to her there.

On weekdays, near the lemon trees in the orchard, you might hear her playing her baby grand piano as she practices for her weekend gig at the Halekulani Resort on Oahu.

With that, today's Hawaiian language translation is of Nā Hōkū Hanohano. Nā indicates a plural for the word that follows it. Hōkū translates to 'star'. And Hanohano means 'distinguished'. So one might say the phrase translates to 'Distinguished Stars' of which Maggie is certainly one!

Aloha!
