Honey
Aloha! I like honey.
A few years ago we bought two Flowhives and while we harvest a few jars per year from the hives, we really love having the bees pollinate the many fruit trees and flowers on the property.
The Flowhive model is a newer type of hive where honey is extracted from the frames by inserting and turning a long Allen wrench into an opening in the back of the hive. This action separates the frames and lets honey flow right into one's jars.
The old Langsdorf model hives that were created in the mid or late 1800s are still in use but they take more effort to enjoy the honey. There are pros and cons of each.
In any case, the bees are really happy and perhaps you can see them 'bearding' in the front of the hive on the right.
With that, let me leave you with a Hawaiian word of the day: 'Meli' -- which translates to 'bee' and 'honey'. It is actually one of 800 Greek words that made their way into the Polynesian languages.
