Aloha! Aka Giant Passionfruit or Giant Granadilla has one of the most intriguing flowers I have ever seen. So many different features and colors. I have no idea how this evolved but it's pretty cool to see.

This is what it looks like once it fruits. You can see these fruits almost all year long on the vine growing on the fence line on the Hilo side of the property.

It's in the passion fruit genus but is quite different. One difference is that it weighs about 3 or 4 pounds.

And here's a juice recipe if you are interested. Basically, you need a few granadilla fruits, cold water, ice and sweetener like honey or sugar.

Cut the granadilla fruits in half and pull out the flesh and add to a blender. Add 3x the water and blend for about a minute.

You will see the black seeds leaving the jelly white while blending. If you over-blend, you will see the seeds break and create lumps.

Separate the seeds, add more cold water and sweetener to taste. Put in the fridge for about 45 minutes and voila!

Finally, let me leave you with a Hawaiian word of the day: liliko`i - which translates to 'passion fruit' in English.
