Double Rose Pikake
Aloha! The Double Rose Pikake is possibly the most fragrant of all the flowers we have at Koili Point.
While we have two plants currently, our goal is to have at least 3x that number by the end of 2024.
The Pikake is part of the jasmine family and gets its name from the word "peacock," because the Hawaiian Princess Kaiulani reportedly was fond of both this flower and the bird, according to Marie Neal (In Gardens of Hawaii).
It's a creamy white, double flower and resembles miniature roses. They typically bloom in the spring and summer and will also bloom about 30 to 40 days after pruning. They are often included in fresh-flower leis for their beauty and fragrance.
With that, let me leave you with a Hawaiian word of the day: ' pīkake ' -- which translates to 'peacock' in English.
