E Komo Mai! Welcome!

Very exciting time for us at Koili Point! We just installed 20 more solar panels to increase the speed at which our 32kw solar batteries get recharged which means AC for longer hours!

We have also hosted some great guests these past weeks and we love interacting with guests from around the U.S. and the world.

Starting in the mid-1800s, the Hawaiian Royal Family traveled quite a bit around the world. In fact, King Kalakaua circumnavigated the world in 1881 on a trip that lasted nearly 300 days. He had previously been to the White House in 1874 as the first monarch to visit America.

The Merrie Monarch Festival (each April the week after Easter) in Hilo is named in his honor and is an extraordinary cultural event which perpetuates hula and Hawaiian culture. It's amazing and hopefully next year folks can attend in person again.

Lastly, I want to leave you with a Hawaiian Place Name and its translation. Today's place name is Mauna Kea — the dormant volcano on which we live.

Mauna Kea — a combination of "mauna" (mountain) and "kea" meaning 'white'. So Mauna Kea aptly translates to 'White Mountain'. Just last week, Mauna Kea had snow on it. I haven't visited the peak in quite some time now yet highly recommend it for a variety of reasons.

Aloha!
