Koili Point Blog Kickoff!
E Komo Mai! Welcome!
Mahalo for being part of the Koili Point dream! We started in 2014 buying the property and little by little, it's become what you have all experienced to date.
We continue to upgrade and by the next time you stay, you'll see a tiki hut on the pool patio. I'll talk more about that in a future post.
As you know I've been talking about a newsletter for some time. I have chosen to go with a blog rather than an email blast. I'll keep this blog short.
In the future I plan on posts including Hawai`i cultural aspects, upcoming events, Big Island pictures, and various discounts for returning guests who subscribe. For some of you who had stayed a while ago, we now have both houses as shown in the picture.
Lastly, I want to leave you with a Hawaiian Place Name and its translation. Each Hawaiian place name has a meaning and one of the most common ones you will hear are places that start with "Wai" — which means fresh water. Today's place is Wailuku.
Wailuku — a combination of "wai" (fresh water) and "luku" meaning 'destruction'. So Wailuku means 'waters of destruction'. You may have seen Wailuku in Maui or, closer to home, Wailuku River, which runs under the metal bridge as you enter Hilo downtown from Koili Point. It's a dangerous river and appropriately named.
Aloha!
